Last Thursday was the Anniversary of the Roe v Wade Court decision, along with the sister decision Doe v Bolton, that though lesser known, also had a devastating effect on the sanctity of human life, that life found in the mother's womb. On January 22, 1973 the Supreme Court ruled that in the penumbrances of the Constitution (not in the words, but somehow in the intent hidden behind the words, intent that was not found anywhere in the official documents surrounding the discussions) there was a right to privacy that included the right of a woman to kill her unborn child. Doe v Bolton went on to suggest that the "health" exceptions under which a woman could procure an abortion were to include any number of conditions, significant or minor, including mental distress, age of the mother, readiness to bear a child, etc. While Roe v Wade spoke of a trimester system to be used in determining viability and the interest of the state in the welfare of the child, Doe v. Bolton, by opening the door to this exception, essentially eliminated such constraints.
The previous weekend our area was busy with rallies in both Carson City (thanks to the tireless efforts of Don Nelson, who has been long working with the Pastor's of the region, encouraging them to step forward) and Reno (thanks to the continued efforts of Nevada Right to Life and Pastor Joe Taylor of South Reno Baptist which graciously hosted the event again this year).
I was still trying to get caught back up at work (it is time for various end of year activities), so I couldn't get to the sidewalk until late in the evening on the 22nd. While I was there, I saw a penny on the sidewalk, a curious reminder of the many who have come to say "In God We Trust". Such a simple gesture, such a simple cost, the giving of one's time, standing as a solitary witness, while open or closed, as we come to Pray to End Abortion.
Won't you join us at the sidewalk? Won't you take a moment to pray for the innocent lives lost?
And if you happen to see a penny, know that it may well have fallen from the pocket of someone who knows that "In God We Trust" and who has also come to Pray to End Abortion. And if, by some chance, a penny were to fall from your pocket, and you fail to pick it up, know that it may help tell others that you too were there, praying for the innocent blood spilt at this sad corner of our community.
Oh, and whatever you do, be lawful while you bring the Love of Christ to the sidewalk. Do NOT Touch the Fence, as it is on private property and I assure you, the abortionist here would like nothing better than to have a reason to persecute you for any offense, great or small. We come to do God's will and we come to do it with Love, the Love of Christ to the best of our humble ability. Therefore, strive to keep Dr. Damon Stutes and his staff in your prayers. Pray that all involved in abortion come to realize the evil of what they are doing and that they realize they are welcome to walk away.
If you have the opportunity, invite an abortion site worker to leave behind the abortion industry, if necessary, with our help. It is through the Love of Christ that this battle will be won. We need to provide to all a path away from the darkness, a path that is free of the fear of reprisal. Can you offer such a grace to all whom you meet, to all with whom you speak on the subject of abortion?
God Bless,
Carol Marie
